Among the highlights from last weekend, reception by Capt. Jawahar in India (Goa), Saturday 1600-1630 UTC, 17580 kHz (top), and by Richard in Hawaii, Sunday, 1930-2000 UTC, 15670 kHz. Text was near-100% for each.
We had an amazing response to last weekend’s program, thanks in part to mostly favorable propagation. Two example are above.
There was one glitch: Music was heard instead of VOA Radiogram Sunday
at 2330-2400 UTC via WRMI Florida, 11580 kHz. This was due to an error
in the automation system.
This weekend is the usual mix of MFSK32 and MFSK16, with five MFSK32 images.
Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 215, 13-14 May 2017, all in MFSK32 except where noted:

Lorenzo in Italy received a good set of images 22 April, 1600-1630 UTC, 17580 kHz, despite poor propagation to just about every other place on earth.
Please note that The Mighty KBC will adjust its broadcast time this weekend. See the details below.
During the past weekend, the VOA
Radiogram broadcast Saturday at 1600-1630 UTC on 17580 kHz, usually
received well in most of Europe, was inaudible in most of Europe and
most of the rest of the world. The only good reception was in parts of
Italy, and that deteriorated during the half four. The apparent cause
was a coronal mass ejection (CME) that was not supposed to affect Earth,
but it affected Earth.
This weekend’s VOA Radiogram is mostly
in MFSK32, with one story in MFSK16. The program will end with ASCII
art. Use a monospace font such as Courier, and maximize Fldigi, because
this will be wide. You can also paste the ASCII art to a text editor or
word processor with a monospace font. If you use TIVAR, I don’t think the app has a facility to change the font. It might be possible to change the font in the Android operating system.
Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 213, 29-30 April 2017, all in MFSK32 except where noted:
1:54 Program preview
3:09 First African-born player in US Major League Baseball*

Last weekend, it was the Sunday 0230-0300 UTC broadcast on 5745 kHz that provided the most difficulty for listeners. Reception in Europe was non-existent. And it was not as good as usual in most of the Americas. Ontario was an exception, as you can see in this video by Scotty in Toronto …

As people and radio shows get older, they tend to draw less attention to their birthdays. Last weekend was program 208 of VOA Radiogram: 208 divided by 52 equals 4, so it seems that VOA Radiogram has passed its fourth anniversary.
Please note that for the broadcast this Saturday at 0930-1000 UTC, 5745 kHz replaces 5865 kHz.
This weekend’s show includes an interesting item about the radio-free zone near the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia. Another item, about the 1957 Sputnik satellite, will be in MFSK16, in case reception is difficult.

Now that most of North America has changed to Daylight Savings Time, most Americans and Canadians will hear VOA Radiogram one hour later by local time. This is because VOA Radiogram stays at the same UTC time year round. The same will happen for European listeners beginning 26 March.
Also that last weekend of March, many shortwave broadcast stations will change some of their frequencies to correspond with seasonal shifts in propagation. The only change for VOA Radiogram from North Carolina is that the Saturday 0930-1000 UTC broadcast will move from 5865 to 5745 kHz, effective 1 April.
Effective 26 March, IBC (Italian Broadcasting Corporation) will drop its 3975 kHz frequency for the summer. IBC will no longer broadcast VOA Radiogram. There might be one more VOA Radiogram via IBC, Wednesday, 22 March, at 2100-2130 UTC, on 3975 kHz.
This weekend’s VOA Radiogram will be all MFSK32, except for one item in MFSK16, in case reception is difficult.

Two weeks ago, we were impressed with the performance of the MFSK16 mode in difficult reception conditions.
